Maxi shirt. Dress over pants. Whatever else you choose to call it, it's a fad less familiar to the average consumer of fashion, and more well-known among those who are familiar with the trends of high fashion, which is more based on runways and red carpets. The style is based off of the kameez and kurtas of Indian clothing, with its central characteristics being the long tunic and the slit sides. I really wanted to highlight this trend because its origins are really part of a heritage I share. My talented aunt recently made me this top that is part of a complete shalwar kameez set. The shalwar kameez style has its origins in the time of the Mughal empire and can be worn both in casual and formal settings depending on the occasion. Regardless of the Insha-appropriate bright blue, I tried to bring the rest of the outfit into the fall season as much as possible. The simplicity of the black khakis and suede shoes matches the color of the paisleys while keeping the outfit from looking too crowded. For my jewelry of the day, I chose some effortless staples from my accessories rotation. In addition to the usual bracelet and watch combination, there is a dark beaded bracelet, long oval ring, and a twisted midi ring. I decided to do something a little different with my hijab to keep the outfit interesting. The black scarf was wrapped both asymmetrically and with a diagonally-crossing lace headband. I also added three vintage-looking button pins that I made myself. The buttons, lace, and oxford heels contrast the traditional attire with aspects of vintage clothing, tying up the outfit with a central theme. Details:
