Khanfession #6: This is a men's shirt. I have always admired how one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Dina Tokio, is always able to flawlessly disguise menswear items into her outfits and then casually be like "oh yeah I got this shirt from the men's department". Over the years, I've actually found that many modest fashionistas also refer to this style tip of shopping in the men's section because it's easier to find things that are loose and offer more coverage than women's clothing. So when I saw this adorable shirt my sister bought, I knew what a perfect styling opportunity it would be. I think one of the weirdest things about wearing this shirt was that the buttons are on the "wrong" side! The reason for this dates back to a time when middle/upper class women wore many more layers than men, and would often have someone else button their clothing for them. Reversing the button side made the job easier for servants that dressed these women. The buttons are still placed this way even now, which is why it took me 10 minutes to understand how to button this shirt opposite of the way I was accustomed to. Playing on my favorite color combination of blue and pink, I decided to go with a magenta ombré scarf. I really wanted to show off the buttoned down collar of this shirt, so I went with a turban and I am definitely glad I did because the different shades of magenta created an amazing layer effect. When you take a closer look, this denim shirt actually has tiny white triangles all over it. To make them pop a little, I went with a layered white bead necklace. Also, please take a moment to appreciate the 2 minutes it took me to close this top button. Thank you. Lastly, I wanted to create the perfect clash of styles here with a rolled cuff and feminine watch. I love rolling cuffs (on shirts, jackets, jeans, you name it) and I like how even though the watch is pink and has stones, it also has a large face and metal band that are part of the menswear for women's watches trend.
