I first started asking for ankle boots in 7th grade, which goes to show exactly how inelastic the trend has been. Over the years, ankle boots have become an essential item in every wardrobe, evolving from a fall favorite to a shoe item for any occasion. They can be worn with dresses, leggings, denim, you name it. The versatility is what makes them such a desirable item; consumers are interested in something that is easy to wear no matter what their style is. On top of that, ankle boots are unique to each style as well. The perfect pair of ankle boots can mean studs and buckles or tasseled suede or even a statement block heel.
When I started shopping for my own pair, I was thrown into the deep end with too many options for my mind to access. But, the key to shopping is to have a vision of what you're looking for. I knew I wanted a pair that would have a little flair to them, but would still be simple enough to wear almost every day. And, being as short as I am, I wanted my pair of boots to offer some heel, but not be uncomfortable to walk in all day. After quite a while of searching through online stores, I found this pair at Macy's. I now wear them with pretty much every outfit and couldn't have wished for a better find.

This past month, I was preparing for my cousin's wedding when I discovered that I was in need of some of the staples of occasion wear: a purse and some heels. My initial instinct was to buy yet another pair of versatile nude pumps. I also tend to favor closed-toe shoes and ankle straps, but I've also always wanted to buy T-strap shoes. While searching 6pm.com for the second hour, I found the Nine West "Scandal" pumps, which feature a T-bar, double-strapping, and a pointed-toe with a sensible heel height of 3.5 inches. The pointed-toe is an intriguing trend that really adds to your height and creates a sophisticated tone to your outfit. However, I've never enjoyed items with animal print, so I paused before choosing these shoes, which are patterned with synthetic reptile skin. I came to the conclusion that this ring lizard pattern was actually an advanced form of the nude pump: the white and gray color was just as easily pair-able and the pattern brought a minuscule texture into any outfit. When continuing my search for a purse, I ended up finding a small bag at ALDO Accessories that matches in color with the shoes. The purse contains three compartments, with the central one having multiple inside pockets and zippers on either side. It has two different synthetic snakeskin patterns: one in a dark gray with a light pink wash for the front pocket, and the other in a cream color that wraps around the bag and forms the strap. The bag has been perfect for storing some of my essential items, while also looking small and adorable when hanging at my side. The shoes and purse ended up being one of my most successful purchases, but I don't think I will need any more reptile skin in my life for a long time. Details:
Purse: ALDO Accessories Shoes: Nine West via 6pm.com This is the story of a black dress with a white sash and flowers. I needed to be dressed in both black and formal clothes for an event the day I wore this dress (I promise it was not a funeral), so I just wore it with black everything except for a white lace headband to play with a vintage style, simple silver jewelry, and nude pumps with ankle straps. Honestly I would rather have preferred to wear some T-strap heels, but I didn't have any handy. This post was never planned to be written, but as the day went on I realized this dress brought a certain power that needed to be documented. This is the story of my eldest sister's college graduation dress. First of all, this dress is so classically flattering because of its simple shape and waistline. I can imagine that when my sister wears it, the belt perfectly cinches the smallest part of her waist, creating a lovely silhouette. The flair of the skirt is just enough that it doesn't shrink people such as my sister and me who are already short and its sweetheart neckline adds a little drama with a 50's touch. But this dress is more than its fabric or its shape. This dress is the product of someone's years of struggling diligence in the face of their endeavor with 17 years of the education system. It is me being able to ask her for advice because I want to know what she did to get to the day where she wore this dress. It is not knowing whether or not she would have been able to find a job in this economy, but preparing herself for that situation anyways. It is the memory of the day I watched my sister walk on to a stage and become the first person in our family to complete college. My eldest sister is there for me day in and day out, and writing about this dress has truly been an insight into the importance she has in our family. It may be just a dress, but it has a story behind it that signifies the aspiration of many people to live up to something bigger than themselves. My other sister is graduating college this year, and I can't wait to watch her walk across that stage, too. And hey, one day it's going to be me up there. Photography by Karen Kaur
This is the story of my blush pink Steve Madden large handbag. It has gold hardware, closes with a magnetic snap button, and has a detachable longer strap along with the two short handles. Before the beginning of this school year, I was looking for a cross-body messenger bag that I could use for school. I found some cute ones that I liked, but this one really caught my eye. The issue with choosing a school bag is finding a color that can be worn every day. It may not be a neutral color, but pink can still go with a multiplicity of outfits or add a pop of color to an outfit where there was none. The light color can be easily marked, so I like to wipe off any spots with a damp paper towel every time one pops up just to maintain the bag. Another part of the appearance I love is how the shine and simplicity of the material give some luxury to my day. As far as the utility of the bag goes, the pockets and large main compartment are perfect for being a home to my books, planner, and assorted arrangement of school supplies. I am one of those people who feels the need to be prepared for every situation of the day. Back when I was still sticking to backpacks, I would stuff as many supplies as I could into my backpack. This bag has taught me to choose which things I really use during an average day, and keep the rest in my locker. Be that as it may, I can still keep my favorite mini stapler with me. Although the button closes perfectly over a folder, I wish there was something that closed off the entire bag rather than one central button. This handbag is one of the most important items in my closet. As my constant companion throughout the day, this bag complements and completes my look. Suffering through the tests and projects is a little bit less dreadful with this piece of pink sweetness by my side all day. It fulfills the qualities of needing to be functional, yet adaptable and style savvy. Photography by Karen Kaur
