To end off the year, I just wanted to do one more small post about an outfit I wore at the beginning of this year at the FIDM Debut Fashion Show, where a selected group of graduating students presented collections of designs they had made-- Chairing Styles, costumes, and couture. Aside from the ones we had at sleepovers and Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador meetings, I had never been to a fashion show before. Watching the creative presentations of artwork that the students had designed reaffirmed my desire to work in the fashion industry.
As a student at a small school in a small city, it can be very difficult to find inspirational street style when your day is filled with the same people in the same hallways. Instagram has now become my main influence when creating new outfits and adopting styles I haven't worn before. This specific outfit draws from the monochromatic approach that many bloggers I follow have shifted towards, while still incorporating a very Insha-appropriate singular pop of color. The silhouette comes from Indonesian street style, with the layering of a long tunic-style sweater over a straight skirt.
With all of the new clothes, gift-giving, fancy food, and just general excitement, Eid is one of the best times of the year. My favorite part is going to the morning prayer and observing the variety of traditional clothing that everyone wears. It reminds me that my community is global and that I am part of something so much bigger than just myself.
