Khanfession #7: International Day is my favorite school event.
Yeah, there are the scrumptious foods and captivating performances; but, for me, the day is all about outfit-watching. Some people choose to represent the "American" culture (or even Canadian, as one guy told me), but most students are vibrantly dressed in cultural costumes and the sight of them is just something unparalleled.

Khanfession #6: This is a men's shirt.
I have always admired how one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Dina Tokio, is always able to flawlessly disguise menswear items into her outfits and then casually be like "oh yeah I got this shirt from the men's department". Over the years, I've actually found that many modest fashionistas also refer to this style tip of shopping in the men's section because it's easier to find things that are loose and offer more coverage than women's clothing. So when I saw this adorable shirt my sister bought, I knew what a perfect styling opportunity it would be. Khanfession #4: I secretly love wearing pink. Oops, the secret's out!
Pink is known for its position as a symbol of femininity. As an elementary school-er, I translated this into a trait of weak girliness. So I stopped saying my favorite color was pink. However, the immense power of pink eventually brought its way into my closet and now I have pink cardigans, pink scarves, pink dresses, and pink jewelry. I wasn't able to escape. Khanfession #3: Forget Versace, I love versatility.
Having just one versatile piece in your wardrobe can add a year's worth of outfits to your lookbook. Items like a classic jumpsuit can be dressed down or made luxurious depending on how you accessorize them. Versatility is one of my favorite parts of fashion because not only can you switch between formal and casual, but you can also concoct a multitude of characters and styles that change the way people see you. Khanfession #2: I am true to my motherland, California: I have no sense of seasons.
As we continue on in the spring/summer fashion season, I find myself creating outfits that have colors that are more suited to the fall/winter season. This is partially due to some natural decline I am having from my usual colorful outfits and also because, as a student in suburban high school, I am not in an environment where the seasons are important to the street style I am exposed to. ![]() Khanfession #1: I miss spring break. After one week of binge-watching 30 Rock and spending some quality bonding time with our rabbit, Momo, I have been forced to return to the world of orange lockers and daily testing. Since I couldn't keep the "break" part, I decided to keep the "spring" part in my first outfit of 4th quarter. The concept of florals for spring has been memorialized by Miranda Priestley's comment ("Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.") in The Devil Wears Prada. The trend might seem overrated, but there is no way you can separate me from my love for florals. Trust me, you can probably find Insha Khan wearing florals while its raining. There is no stopping our love affair. |
